Someone's choking

And I guess that would be us Leaf fans.

Nevertheless, there's no reason for us to lose faith in Ottawa's potential to blow it in the finals. After all, they came by this win on a cheat. If that rascal Comrie hadn't pulled that stunt and knocked the net off with about three minutes to go, the game wouldn't have gone to overtime. Buffalo would have won it right then and there.

I'm hoping for an Anaheim/Ottawa cup final and an Anaheim cup win.

For those of you who think I'm anti-Canadian for not cheering for the only Canadian team left in the playoffs:

Detroit has 8 Canadians
Ottawa has 14 Canadians
Anaheim has 19 Canadians
Should Detroit make it to the finals rather than Anaheim, I will justify cheering for Detroit because of my visceral hatred of the Senators.

At this time of year, it's less about being a Leaf fan and more about being an Ottawa hater. Yes, they have great players -- probably the best. But they also dive and cheat. Don't you be telling me that the Leafs do those things. I can't hear you.

I don't know what it is about Ottawa that makes my blood boil when they win. It isn't that I hate the city -- Ottawa. I've never even been there.

Maybe it's the red. Liberals are red. That must be it -- because there's just no way that it's sour grapes.

* Edited for correct spelling of that rascal Mike Comrie's name.

The Sens will choke--no way either Buffalo or Ottawa with their play would beat a refined Anaheim or Detroit.

Enjoy your team Sens fans, the crying begins in a few weeks.

I just can't stomach the idea of Disney winning the Stanley Cup I guess...

Raphael you moron, Disney sold the Ducks to Henry Samueli during the lockout.

Idiot.

Nevertheless, go Ottawa...

Sigh. Now I know why I quit watching hockey when the Jets were ripped from the heart of Winnipeg.

Cripes. Ottawa is just a friggin city. It's the rest of the country that sends their assholes there.

Anna, you're a real class act (that was sarcasm, by the way - seeing that you probably won't get it). Hard to grasp how spiteful and stupid some Leafs fans can get. Sweetheart, your team hasn't had talent in four decades - get over it already. And you Torontonians wonder why the rest of the country hates your guts. Heck, most of Canada would love to see Toronto separate, not Québec - at least Québec has a major league hockey team, unlike Toronto.

....hmmm...should we talk about the reffing?

Don Cherry picked Anaheim and Ottawa for the finals way back when...now I know why. Anaheim - 19 Canadians, Ottawa - 14 Canadians.

Of the 103 players in the western and eastern finals conference, 47% of the players are Canadians. Next highest per country is the U.S with 18%

Detroit has 7 Swedes, one less than the 8 Canadians on team.

I think I figured out Cherry's modus operandi for picking the two final teams. Now all I have to do is figure out what store he buys his great clothes from. :-)

Caveman, you're a dipshit. You know that? All Sens fans are. Comerie is a diving puss, Alfredsson flops on the ground when someone touches his stick, and Emery dresses like a pimp.

By the way, I'd just like to remind you guys...

The Maple Leafs are 16-8 in the playoffs versus the Senaturds, games wise, and 4-0 series wise.

Sundin, Thomas, Hoglund, Kristich, Kaberle, Perreault, Korolev, Berezin, Antropov, Yushkevich, Valk, Tucker, Karpovtsev, Cross, Domi, Adams, McCauley, King, Markov, Clark, Diduck, Mair, Andrusak, Joseph, Farkas, Roberts, McCabe, Corson, Manson, Berg, Mogilny, Renberg, Reichel, Green, Lumme, Pilar, Belak, Healey, Eriksson, MacLean, Wren, Dempsey, Schwab, Nieuwendyk, Nolan, Klee, Francis, Stajan, Fitzgerald, Leetch, Johansson, Kilger, Marchment, Wilm, Belfour

That's right, all you really have to do is wear a Leaf uniform to beat the Senators...

caveman, darling -- (seeing we're using endearments) -- you're just jealous that you don't have guys like Bryan can't keep it in McCabe and Andrew can't keep it out Raycroft.
Now honeybunch, go crawl back under your rock or into that hole you climbed out of in whatever non-important place in the RoC you come from.

Sorry, Canadianna, I just blogged on this myself. I'll admit Snottawa has some, ahem, questionable players. But nothing to compare to the stunt Pronger pulled on Edmonton last year...or the similar disappearing stunt Hasek plays on his team whenever he fancies himself a little under the weather.
This lifelong Leafer (I'm not one of the irrational ones who thinks they can trade Antropov straight up for Sidney Crosby) will give Ottawa their Cup final appearance. I'll even suggest they can win their Cup. At least a Sens win would make the front page in the SUN and CITIZEN...would a Ducks win even, uh, register in the Orange County REGISTER? And even if so, would anyone other than the team's mothers bother to read the article?
Hockey belongs in places that have at least a passing acquaintance with winter.
As far as "Hockeytown" goes--did the Wings even have a single sellout during the regular season? And we're forgetting that Detroit has a long and storied history of choking. They're choke Picassos: President's Trophy-winning, first-round detritus more often than not.

Ottawa will be insufferable if they win it all. Just the thought of those wankers holding a Stanley Cup parade makes me queasy (that or the front page article on Chinese food imports in the Star).

I am reduced to rooting for Anaheim - Anaheim! - Ottawa is unthinkable, and I don't want to see Bertuzzi win anything.

valiantmauz -- to hear someone as sweet as you calling them wankers -- that just made my day!!

GO DUCKS!

There's life and then there's hockey. I can find a kind word even for Jerry Falwell, but the Ottawa Senators?

Nuh-uh.

Quitters never win and Winners never quit. However, those who never win and never quit are idiots.

No offense to all you die-hard leaf fans out there, but let me ask you - why do you care so much about the hockey when all the owners and most of the players only care about the money? Don't ya ever feel, well, used?

Canadianna said...

inp -- so true, but alas, I'm a hockey fan. Which of course is why MLSE has no incentive to build a decent team. There are just too many of us suckers.

Awwww.... a jealous/bitter Leaf fan - how cute!

To sum the Ottawa/Buffalo series up as "won on a cheat" is rather silly - nice original posturing though. I didn't see you whining when Kelly was decked from behind to allow Buffalo to tie it in Game 2 - is that level of cheating acceptable to you?

And speaking of cheating... you're a Leafs fan for crying out loud - your team is a bunch of useless goons who have to cheat to keep up.

Canadianna said...

Andrew --- Of course I have to sum it up that way . . . I'm an Ottawa hater. What'd ya expect?

Bitter? Yes. Jealous? No. Like I told caveman -- why would I be jealous when TO has the likes of Bryan can't keep it in McCabe and Andrew can't keep it out Raycroft. What has Ottawa got -- Alfredson, Spezza, Heatley, Redden, Emer- wait. Nevermind.

But hey . . . you've got to cut me some slack. What fun would the playoffs be to a Leaf fan, if we can't hope for an Ottawa meltdown?

Even I, a TML hater, can't stomach the thought of not cheering for the Leafs in the Stanley Cup Final, unlike Leafs fans who would cheer for Nashville if it meant the Sens didn't win.

Thankfully for me, if past futility is any indication of future futility, I'll never be forced to do so. ;)

Sadly, you're probably right.
